Yes, the Mayan's did predict a big major activity. Though not the end of the world exactly. More so, like the polarity of the earth switching, which would make since.
It all has to do with the ice age - I believe. I have my own theory building up in my head, and just started a blog about it myself the other day.

A friend of mine mentioned 2012 last night to me and it's the first I heard about it so I jumped on here out of curiosity. I think it's kind of sick and sounds like a bunch of skeptical jargon.
I choose to live every day like it is the last because let's be real, WHO THE HELL KNOWS what is going to happen or when it's your time to go on. The past is history, the future is a mystery and now is a gift, thats why it's called the present. It's not healthy to sit around and trip out about when you will die. 2012 presents a strange and bizarre confluence of multiple beliefs, mythologies, traditions, predictions, prophecies, and even cosmologies. Never before has one period of time (or even one date -- December 21, 2012) been the object of so much dooms day speculation.
2012 is rapidly becoming Y2K on steroids!
Its almost as if we have an obsession, or perhaps a twisted desire, to see the world come to an end in our generation, (incidentally, each generation since the dawn of man has thought that they would see the 'end of times' in their life; it must be hardwired into our DNA). I think fundamentally we all feel that the earth is changing, and that we, as a species, are off course. As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and he is us." Perhaps we want the world to fix itself, even if that means we get 'thinned' in the process?
I have spent years studying 2012, both the scholarship and the nonsense, and my conclusion is that you should take the date seriously if for no other reason than SO MANY people actually want it to happen. Its called 'collective manifestation' and it should worry you. Regardless, 2012 does present some sobering, scientifically proven risks (aside from the fear-mongering scams), that we should take seriously. And, short of a catastrophic, species-ending event, this is a date that you can prepare for.
I don't think you should build a bomb shelter, but you should be prepared for a lengthy disruption in infrastructure. Think long term food and water supplies and you'll be okay.

1) They Mayan civalization could have gotten whiped out before they had time to complete the calender.
2)The Mayans interpreted the stars are wrong and they could have been wrong for that year.
3)The world and civalization doesn't end, but advance and actually really begins. Like think of it this way: The world was still a baby when humans came. So in escence humans are still babies. The world goes through a seasonal stages (the iceages=winter, the iceage melting= spring Global warming/ tropical era= summer and the slow proces of going back into the iceages=fall/atummn.) So maybe in 2012 the earth goes from baby to chld and so do humans. So we advance more then we are now.
4)The one my friends all like: maybe the world doesn't end, we're just attacked by zombies. XD. Or some other undead thing like vampires, werewolves, and other things like that.
5) Nothing happens like that Y2K bullshit.
So every one just calm down and open your mind to an infinate number of posablities instead of just going with the more cleche "THE WORLD WILL END!!!OUR TIME IS NEAR!!!" stuff.

I'm scepticle but looking at the world today don't think it's too far off. It's 2009 we have a massive destruction the worlds economy, we have terroism and wars around the world, and we have impending doom of greenhouse gasses melting ice caps and destroying our planet. All that said, I still try to live life a day at a time and try to do my God's will each day. I'm 28 very sucessful in my career married and am planning on traveling, buying a porsche, and hopefully right around 2012 having some kids and buying a house...so if all else fails at least I'll have some time to drive a race car and travel the world...and if it's still around well then I guess I'll settle down some more with children and a house :)!

There's only one Supreme Lord. According to His will and wish, this world is destined to be destructed at the end, but the million dollar question is when is this End suppose to take place.
According to Bhagavad-Gita, this Age of Kali / Kaliyuga has a duration of 4,30,000 years to come to an !!! END !!!. After the end of Age of Dwapara / Dwaparayuga, we have crossed just over 5300 years, so relax.
If there is an unpalatable event that is expected in 2012, it will cause partial destruction to some part of the globe. Some say that that one of the Islamic countries will be wiped off, so who knows according to the Supreme Lord, which is Islamic Country ???
Certainly, for the part of population, it would be Doomsday for others it would be another natural disaster like Tsunami, Earthquakes, etc.

I am very fearful for 2012 to come, as I do believe that something "Earth changing" is going to happen. Now what this thing is that could happen, is beyond my human brain to grasp at the moment, since there is so much being tossed around on the internet about 2012.
However, with that being said, my one hope in all of this is that this change that happens is actually God returning to Earth to gather his children home. I know, a lot of people don't believe and that's fine with me because my best friend is atheist. But seriously, look at it from a true, philosophical and biblical standpoint: Nations are at war, the world is falling apart physically, financially and spiritually, governments are in upheaval and many (not me, I voted for B.O), believe Obama to be the Antichrist. Once all of this falls into place, God returns.

The modern Maya have an embrace of God that is big enough to contain all of it. Jesus I'm sure is on board here too. 2012 is metaphor, and allegory. I was frustrated trying to describe what my Mayan brothers were telling me, and I finally turned to narrative fiction.

No one can tell the future. That's why 2012 is more allegory than prophecy. Most Mayans would agree. The Mayanologist Barbara Tedlock told the story of a shaman who dreamed of a frayed rope, and said it absolutely meant he would encounter a poisonous snake. At the end of the day she asked if he had seen the snake and he said no, he had been making too much noise.
Western Christians talk about being co-creators with God, Mayans live it. God feeds us and we feed him. It is part of a tradition that is still sacrificial, not liturgical.
So where does that leave prophecy? It leaves it as one thread, one of the millions in the tapestry of our lives, leading from the past to the future.
Allegory lends itself to fiction, and the novel '2012: Under the Witz Mountain' is just 1 thread in the tapestry.

We are all too late. Right now there is no way out. Global warming has taken its toll and before any silly nutter comes and says there is no such thing take a look outside if the wether is too hot or too cold or extreme those are its effects.
Basicly we were doomed since 2006. There is no way we can survive Global warming or at least most of us wont survive. Even if we stoped making Carbon emmisions it is too late as with most people if you do something for a certain amount of time it begins to stick with you like smoking.
In this cas because of all the polution in the atmosphere already the suns rays are bieng reflected back at the earth causing a global heating effect which although it sounds nice for people who like the beach it isnt.
The Global heating effect can result in various wether conditions mostly extreme. Events such as Tidal waves, Hurricanes and Droughts will be the most common. I suspect temperatures in the UK will reach above there highest like last year.
We could have stopped this a simple destruction of cars that use fossil fuels in 2006 or a ban on nuclear power sources but the goverment needed there money.
Only now are they starting to realise the scale of it. They know there is many ways the earth can be destroyed in 2012. A few years back they said about a new virus they had discovered which could wipe out all human life in an instant if it crossed species (It is actually effecting flies) Dont worry though they (Apparently) managed to destroy the virus.
What i am saying is that now there is no escape from the end and that even any sort of God cant help you. I myself know of what is too happen and each day i have to look at the results.
I am not preaching for anyone to join a religion, worship me or give up on faith i am merely saying that there is nothing we can do.
There is one thing i must tell you though here are a list of things the Goverment are supposed to do in an emergence. Any emergency follows these rules (Found on a Goverment Website):
1. Find out the true nature of the threat if hostile try reasoning methods.
2. If hostile quarrantine everyone who has been affected or has witnessed the effects.
3. If step 2 fails use agressive force such as large scale assualts and wipe out all those in quarrantine.
4. If all the above steps fail then a chosen few may be allowed into a safe area while the rest are left to die.
5. The survivors must not know of any wrong`s done in the handling of the threat if they do lethal force may be neccesary.
6. If it is a Global crissis (End of the world) then do not tell any of the public. Calmness is the only way to save people as a huge panic will cause many lives to be lost.
Based on these points i would like to state to any of you out there this message.
"Keep safe and enjoy your life to the full. If there is no heaven or hell then surely it is best to do what you want in life"
Also for all those religious people can you answer me this. If god forgives all those who repent then why is there a hell as anyone who is going to hell would surely repent or plead for forgiveness?
Also for all those christians out there i think i have discovered how Jesus did the fish and loaves of bread trick.
If everyone is sitting on a table and you are passing round food to eat where there is lots of people around you you feel nervous. This means you only take the smallest pieces of the food so you dont look greedy. Each person round the table respects Jesus and doesnt want to seem greedy so they take only a tiny small crum. When Jesus asks if they are hungry they lie so Jesus doesnt feel upset that they are still hungry after his food.
Again i am not trying to offend anyones religious beliefs i am only voicing an opinion!

you my anonymous friend are the fool everyone has a god of some kind....you are just one of the people with the most pathetic god of all.....yourself....i am not saying this is an act of god, but if there is a god why would it happen......the world is dieing in my practice i can feel the world slowly dieing...we humans are like cancer to the world we over populate, destroy one another, and harm the earth.....in my practice the darkness tells me why i am not so sure the world is wanst going to end....but humans...and not the way you think i have been feeling myself get pulled closer and closer to my gods...at night i would sleep normally 4 years ago but ever since 2004 (its end) i havent been able to sleep so i would just sit outside and listen to the voice of the night`s darkness and then i felt it we wont die we simply will be pulled even closer to our own religion (i dont think it will be the same for those who think themselves gods)

but even if i really want this rotten world to end.. im pretty sure nothing will happen in that short time, maybe natural disaster but that's our foult not god or aliens.

From what history has taught us it tends to repeat itself. The world is not going to end... think of it more as a replenishing of the world-- a new beginning/ like the dinosoars. An ancient culture has some how dated the solar year accurately down to the minute-- what does that tell you. The planet is dying because of humans- theres too many for the world to provide life. The year 2012 is the year where the world gets rid of more than half the population leaving only about 50 million people. But of course something is suppose to save us. It is said when the time comes the 13 crystal skulls will come together and save the world and when I mean world I mean the human population. I've been doing alot of research and somehow i found a linkage to the maya temples/calender and crytal skulls. Why do u think in the mexican culutre they honor death in the form of a skull? They honor the skull cause maybe it will save their lives?? The person thats suppose to save us is born in the year of the snake/ the suppose prophet to combine the crystal skulls and reach salvation. But who knows??? I would trust womens intuition though... "A woman bears the gift of life...she is thy god thy reason of light."

I am 35 years old and I can not remember anytime that the world was not going towards the end and distruction. First it was global cooling and cold war, then UFO's and ET's, then Y2K, then anti-christ was coming according to Nostradamus, and everytime I prepared to "Brace for impact" but nothing really happend.
Now it is the Mayan calender, but the question is that if the Mayans were not be able to forsee their own collpase, how would you trust them to predict the end of the world in 2012.

It becomes like the wolf situation, no one believes with all the different dates given. The true is, they (Satanist) do not want you to believe in the real thing. Think about it, who benefits mostly from the end of the world being a secret, God or Satan? If you thought Satan, you thought right. Satan wants you to party right up to the end. Then you are his to party with. But if you knew the end is near you may have enough sense to straighten up and fly right before the end. This would be more pleasing to God. I'm Josh. Im not a scholar, not a genius, not a professional, not even a college graduate (yet).. However I am a part of this world, I am open minded to new ideas, and I do forsee changes in our near future.
Three ideas on 2012 are floating about.
1. negative change (death, disease, distruction)
2. Positive change (Enlightment, cooperation, love)
3. Just another year (nothing will happen, everything is fine)
for any under #3:
open your minds up to new possibilities PLEASE because u know, i know, we ALL know that the world is not perfect, EVERYONE is NOT happy, and things COULD be different. To be 100% content with the world today (or any day) is to neglect your humanity. The Human being is a thinking creature. We thrive off of new information because without it we are stuck in frustration. EVERYTHING CHANGES EVENTUALLY!
for any under #1:
this is a possibility so it is not hard for me to understand why people would think this. Throughout our lives we have been trained to pass on negative information- (drama movies, MTV, News, the neighbor is a sex offender, john doe died last night) -which wether we like it or not brings negative thoughts or ideas into a positive perspective through social comfort. Therefore it is easy for us to "want" a negative change because as a race we enjoy overcoming odds, and being the best. so its nearly natural for us to jump to a negative conclusion such as swine flu kills us all, or polar shifts in an instant, or fire raining from the sky-it's all SO interesting to us that we practically reach for it. Granted all of that may be true, or it may not,none of us know and thats exactly why you are at your computer right now reading this authors article or this particular comment on the article. I only hope that if #1 is the truth that it may come swiftly so the pain of extermination is at a minimum for everyone.
for any under #2:
for most all events in life things usually get worse before they get better (the calm before the storm type of idea). we need to understand that yes to all of us as humans we have personnal thought and ideas but if you look at us from a distant vantage point as a singular species there is still a common happening between all, we are ALL connected even though we cant see, smell, taste, touch, or hear it. gravity exists... can you taste that? there are those of us who are so caught up in earthly or humanly ways that we forgot to stop and thank whatever higher power we believe to let all this be. but there are still believers out there, open mindedness still exists, and possibilities are endless beyond what we can fathom in our feeble minds. The only way for all of humanity to unite is either intergalactic war, or global devastation. but with a united earth... well thats so amazing im getting chills just typing it.
I personally am stuck between #1 and #2. I can see both happening simultaneously. Im aware of all the natural disasters happening and its increasing ferocity. I do believe people in general have lost touch with wanting to know more about who we are or what we are doing in this ocean of chaos. It may just be a reawakening for us to remember what is truly important in life instead of being so caught up in economics, polotics, racism, rules, entertainment. (ALL OF THESE ARE MADE UP BY MAN. EVERYTHING U LEARN IN SCHOOL WAS MADE UP AT SOME POINT IN MANS EXISTANCE THEN SIMPLY PUT INTO EFFECT! EVEN SCHOOL ITSELF)! maybe, just maybe we will be shown what we should all really be doing with our time here on earth.
if u want to think im a dumbass go ahead but just remember u dont know what will happen either, you are denying yourself by not trying to find out, and if #2 is correct ull probably be one of the controlled deaths because theres no room in an eternity of space and possibilities for a closed off mind.
